Education and Employers, a charity dedicated to connecting young people with the world of work, once again turned to trusted creative partners, Impact Communications, for help in designing a report to showcase the career aspirations of primary school children in Northern Ireland. Impact created a vibrant report showcasing the children’s responses to key questions and, most strikingly, drawings of their dream jobs.
The Drawing the Future report highlights research methodologies and presents findings which were both as inspiring as they were concerning. While the children’s artwork contained creativity and imagination, revealing a deep value for education and a strong belief in gender equality, the report also exposed a significant disconnect between their aspirations – often influenced by family, local community, or the media – and the reality of future job markets.
Many children expressed desires of becoming YouTube influencers, pop stars, or athletes, with limited awareness of the diverse opportunities within growing sectors. This disparity highlighted the urgent need to broaden children’s horizons and connect their dreams to the real-world needs of a thriving economy.
